Discuss reciting the Qur’an upon the dead.

Reciting the Qur’an for the dead is a permissible act.   Suratul-Hajj, Ayah 77 means, “And do good deeds.” The hadith of the Prophet means, “Recite Surat Ya Sin upon your dead.” (Related and certified by Ibn Hibban.) The scholars of the right path agreed unanimously on the validity and benefit of reciting the Qur’an upon the dead. Imam Ash-Shafi^iyy said, “It is good to recite part of the Qur’an at the grave of a Muslim. It is even better to recite the whole Qur’an.” (Reported by An-Nawawiyy in Riyadus-Salihin.)
